Kinky Curly Curling Custard Review

Here is another review by Steffy Patick. Don’t forget to check out her review of Nyassa Hibiscus Conditioner as well.

Hi ladies,

Following CG is more of a discipline for us to tame our tresses. But unfortunately this discipline demands products with limited availability in India. I read many great reviews about the product called kinky curly custard and decided to give it a try. It is sort of a styling gel. I ordered it through Amazon. I used to make homemade flax seed gel  for styling but because of shelf life limitation, wanted to try this. I paid Rs2400 for 8 ounces of it.

Product Description By Manufacturer

Kinky-Curly Curling Custard gives moisture and curl definition, hold and brilliant shiny hair all in one product! Instantly transform thick, dry, frizzy hair into silky spirals and wonderful waves. This advanced botanical formula will:

Eliminate frizz
Define Curls
Lock in moisture
Give brilliant shine
Provide long lasting hold
Used regularly, Kinky-Curly Curling Custard will help maintain your hair’s moisture balance and reduce breakage resulting in longer healthier hair.

This high performance product is formulated with all natural ingredients and will not change the natural texture of your hair. Utilizing the humectant properties of the Agave Nectar, Curling Custard will give weight to your hair, define your curls, remove frizz, provide long lasting hold and shine without ever being greasy, crunchy or drying to your hair.
It reduces bulk, defines & elongates your curls helping them to ‘hang’ better. Kinky-Curly Curling Custard will bring out the natural curl or wave pattern you never knew you had!

Directions

Wash and condition hair. Remove tangles from hair with finger or a wide tooth comb gently while the conditioner is still in hair. Rinse and apply to wet hair. Using a towel will cause frizz.

Thick coarse curls: Hair must be dripping wet. Divide hair into small sections. Smooth or rake Kinky-Curly Curling Custard into each section. Use a spray bottle to re-wet any dry sections. Smooth with fingers from root to tip to lengthen your curls & ‘reduce the poof’ if you want to get the loose curls instead of tight curls.

Loose wavy curls: Apply to damp or wet hair. Scrunch Kinky-Curly Curling Custard into medium sections of hair. Flip head upside down to create more volume and body.

This high performance product is very concentrated so a little goes a long way.

**TIP- To achieve ultimate curl definition and length, Kinky-Curly Knot Today may be used as a leave-in conditioner before applying Kinky-Curly Curling Custard.

Ingredients: Botanical infusion of water, horsetail, chamomile, nettle and marshmallow, organic aloe vera juice, agave nectar extract, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin e, anti-oxidant), citric acid (pH Adjuster), potassium sorbate (preservative) and natural fragrance.

My Experience

I have been using this product for quite some time. It has a thick gel texture. I scrunch this product into my hair after shower. You need very little of this, almost an almond size dollop. But when unknowingly I apply more than that to my hair I end up with a gel cast. But no worries with that as you can always scrunch away the cast after drying. It defines my curls perfectly with close to zero frizz. It’s a holy grail for Curlies. Coming to its fragrance, its divine. It smells like dessert. My Husband keeps sniffing the custard as it reminds him of vanilla pudding.

Pros

  • Awesome curl definition
  • Pleasant smell
  • Less frizz
  • Nice shine.

Cons

  • Curl loses little definition in high humidity weather.
  • Expensive
  • Crunchiness (Gel Cast) if you use more of the product (not a cone if you like to use gels which give cast as it goes away after scrunching hair when it is dry)

Availability: It is available on Amazon in two sizes 8oz and 16oz.

This is a picture of my hair where I used kinky curly on my hair after a Nyassa Hibiscus Shampoo and Nyassa Hibiscus conditioner.

Overall I will give it 4 out of 5 rating.

STEFFY PATRICK

As always, this is how the product works on my hair, YMMV (Your mileage might vary).

Hey ..thanx a ton for this review. I have a question, my hairs gets weigh down easily, and flex gel makes my hair stiff, just like noodles… So should i give this a try? I have 3a /3b type, fine hairs with almost no density and volume at all (due to severe hairfall 😑).

      hi sandhya,
It won’t give you more volume – if anything it weighs your hair down a bit. I think you should skip this one.
