Regular readers must have an idea by now about the importance of using a leave-in conditioner after wash. A leave-in conditioner provides the most important thing our hair always crave for, which is ‘moisture’.
Ingredients: Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) fruit powder, Phyllanthus emblica (Amla) fruit powder, Beta Vulgaris (Beet root) extract, Phytosterols, Serenoa Serrulata Fruit (Saw Palmetto) Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Glycerin, Pyrus Malus (apple) fruit extract, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Betaine, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Citric Acid, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynl Butylcarbamate, Potassium Sorbate, polyacrylamide, Parfum (Courmarin, Limonene)
Cetearyl alcohol: It is fatty alcohol means non-drying alcohol. It works as an emollient (like oil), emulsifier (mixes oil and water together and does not let it separate), thickener.
Cetyl Alcohol: Like Cetearyl alcohol, it is also a fatty alcohol means non-drying alcohol which works as emollient and enhances the performance of conditioning agent, which are Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine in this case.
Coconut Fruit Powder: We all know the benefits of coconut for hair. It provides moisture to hair and increase elasticity.
Amla Fruit Powder: Encourage growth, thicken hair and prevent premature greying.
Beet Root Extract: Natural silica in beet promotes hair growth and shine.
Saw Palmetto Extract: Known to work as a DHT blocker (DHT is one of the causes of hair loss).
Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract: Green tea extract, works as anti-oxidant and promotes hair growth too.
Glycerin: It is a humectant which attracts and traps water inside the hair shaft and keep it moisturized.
Apple Fruit Extract: Provides moisture and softness.
Lemon Peel Extract: It has anti-oxidant and anti-microbial properties.
Sugar Cane Extract: Moisturizes and conditions hair.
Betaine: It is a naturally derived amino acid which helps retains moisture inside hair and provides conditioning effect too.
Behentrimonium Methosulfate: Cationic surfactant (positively charged) derived from rapseed oil. Conditioning agent. It conditions, detangles, provides slip, fights static and softens hair. Do not confuse this with the sulfate present in shampoo which are cleaning agents. This is a completely CG friendly ingredient which protects hair.
Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine: Cationic surfactant (positively charged) derived from rapeseed oil. Provides slip and smooths cuticles which helps in detangling, attaches to negative sites (damaged site) on hair and prevents static charge on hair (flyaways).
Citric acid: Added to adjust the pH of the product.
Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynl Butylcarbamate, Potassium Sorbate: All preservatives
Polyacrylamide: It works as a thickener. This is a little controversial ingredient. It is not in itself toxic but it has potential to break down into acrylamide under certain conditions which is considered toxic. You can read more about it on Wikipedia. The scant studies about degradation of polyacrylamide into acrylamide under certain conditions were contradicting each other.
Parfum (Courmarin, Limonene): For smell!
The job of the leave-in conditioner is to provide moisture and this one does not disappoint. I found it to be light-weight and non-greasy for my hair and it does not look weighed down after use. It provides amazing curl definition and shine too. You can use it alone if your hair does not require gel in normal humidity. But I use it with hard hold gel due to the humid environment because I always like my curls to be ready to fight against humidity. It provides very good slip due to Behentrimonium Methosulfate which is a very good conditioning agent. It does a really good job in refreshing non-wash day hair as well. I do not even feel the need of refreshing my hair second day after its use on wash day. It may vary for you as the dryness factor of hair depends a lot on the environment you live in and your hair type.
It does not have very strong smell and it does not linger around the whole day. It has kind of same consistency as Kinky Curly Knot Today (KCKT) leave-in conditioner and works as good as KCKT. It is also reasonably priced as compared to other imported US products that are available in India for curly hair.
How to use: Use it on freshly washed wet hair. Either smooth over or rake it in for even coverage through out the head. On non-wash days, refresh your hair with water and As I Am leave-in conditioner without separating curls and only smooth it over section by section.
Price and Availability: Rs. 1300 – 1550 (237ml, 8oz). The price keeps on varying due to third party sellers. It is available online at Amazon.in.
